Magruder was most recently a coach at Newbury Park High School, and ended his season there in February, officials said. Nishimoto said authorities are not actively searching for other possible victims at this time. Police started their investigation in January after being contacted by Thousand Oaks High officials, who had learned of the alleged incidents. Chuck Eklund, director of secondary education for Conejo Valley Unified, said the district had no comment at this time. However, district officials had a different time line for Magruder's coaching at the schools. They said he coached at Thousand Oaks High during the 1999-2000 school year, then was at Newbury Park High from 2000 to February as a walk-on coach of the boys' wrestling team and assistant coach to the freshman football team. Those who know Magruder, a former student athlete at Thousand Oaks High who now worked as an exterminator, said they were shocked. Manuel Valdez, a 28-year coach of the Thousand Oaks High boys' wrestling team, said he brought in the former high school wrestler and starting football player to coach. ``Are you going to ask me if I'm surprised? Yes. I was surprised when all this came about,'' Valdez said. |
