But these girls want to get at least as far as they did last year, so we'll have to get through who we have to get through in order to make that happen.'' But with the stakes being much higher in the playoffs, Kellogg knows that her team is going to have to work that much harder to compensate for Strange's absence. ``Anything can happen,'' Kellogg said. ``When you win your league and lose just once all season, usually you're getting an easier team in the first round. That's why I never want to underestimate anyone. ``Just going on my experience last year during the boys' season, they have a pretty strong program.'' --Staying tough: Valencia's biggest strength entering the postseason continues to be its depth, which was again on display at the league tournament Thursday at Burbank Tennis Center. After learning her sister would be unable to compete in the doubles tournament because of her injury, Cassie Strange made the switch to the singles' draw and advanced to the finals, losing to Saugus' Nadia Sakhakorn 6-1, 6-0. Michelle Stock also had a good showing at the tournament, finishing fourth after losing to Sakhakorn in the semifinals and Burbank's Katy Nikolova in the third-place match. It was the second three-set match Kawewat and Palmera played Thursday after falling to Burbank's Diane Grair and Summer Zapata in a semifinal contest. --Nearing the finish line: As exciting as the possibility of a return trip to the semifinals is for Valencia, it is also an emotional time for Kellogg's seniors, who aren't ready for their careers to end. With only junior Cassie Strange advancing to the Southern Section individual tournament, sometime in the next two weeks will mark the last time Kawewat and Westover take the court together after four successful years on varsity. ``They're seniors and they're sniffing sniff v. sniffed, sniff·ing, sniffs v.intr. 1. a.
