CNN Interactive will Launch German-Language Web Site; Aligns with German Companies n-tv and DIE TELEBOERSE.

Alliance will Provide First 24-Hour News Web Site in Germany 

CNN Interactive will launch a German-language news and information Web site, its eighth non-English Web site and Germany's first 24-hour news Web site, it was announced today by Scott Woelfel, president and editor in chief of CNN Interactive. The site, to debut in mid-October, will be produced by CNN Interactive in alliance with n-tv, a German all-news television channel partially owned by Time Warner/CNN and Handelsblatt investment magazine DIE TELEBOERSE.

The new Web site will be accessible at http://CNN.de and http://n-tv.de.

"We are confident German-language Internet users worldwide are eager for a 24-hour news and information site of the high caliber that CNN, n-TV and DIE TELEBOERSE can provide," said Woelfel. "This new site further extends CNN Interactive's goal of providing the most timely, thorough and accurate news to users worldwide in the most convenient way possible."

A dedicated staff will be based in the site's primary newsroom in Berlin, with additional journalists working from the Atlanta and New York newsrooms of CNN Interactive and in Frankfurt for DIE TELEBOERSE. The site will offer a variety of regional and international news, as well as a host of other categories. This is the first time CNN.com's content will appear in German.

"The successful co-operation of n-tv, CNN and DIE TELEBOERSE will be available on the Internet," said Kenneth Jautz, CEO of n-tv. "We are combining our know-how so the user can access a unique service. The aim is clear: Whatever happens in the world, you will see it first at this site."

Coverage of business news will be an integral part of the new site, and DIE TELEBOERSE will provide information for professional and casual investors. The investment magazine also will offer extensive news about business and markets with the help of new service tools allowing investment decisions.

Roland Tichy, managing editor of the investment magazine, said the site is an important step forward for his publication. "We are completing the multimedia news cascade. The day's latest stock market reports, tips, background information on private investments, detailed investment recommendations and news will be available on the site," he said.

The German site, along with CNN Interactive's new European-focused English-language Web site set to launch in September, will bring the number of CNN Web sites to 14. Other non-English-language sites are CNNSverige/Svenska, CNNNorge, CNN Danmark, CNNItalia.it, CNNenEspanol.com, CNNBrasil.com and CNN.co.jp.
