CNN's On-demand Video Destination Launches as Part of CNN.com's New Look.


ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 3, 1998--CNN Interactive's award-winning Web site, CNN.com, today introduced its enhanced new look with the launch of CNN CNN
 or Cable News Network

Subsidiary company of Turner Broadcasting Systems. It was created by Ted Turner in 1980 to present 24-hour live news broadcasts, using satellites to transmit reports from news bureaus around the world.
 Videoselect, a section for on-demand video news. Videoselect draws upon CNN's immense video resources, including constantly updated newscasts from CNN Headline News and a full range of individual news reports, as well as the latest Larry King Live Larry King Live is a nightly CNN interview program hosted by broadcaster and writer Larry King. The show premiered in 1985, and is CNN's most watched program, with over one million viewers nightly.  and Crossfire A multi-GPU interface from ATI for connecting two ATI display adapters together for faster graphics rendering on one monitor. CrossFire machines require PCI Express slots, a CrossFire-enabled motherboard and, depending on which models are used, either a pair of ATI Radeon adapters or one  programs. Textual information accompanies each video, offering additional information and hyperlinks to related stories on the Web. Also, video of breaking news and live events will continue to be linked off CNN.com's and AllPolitics.com's home pages, as well as other news pages.

"Users have accessed our video in ever-growing numbers, and we are pleased that people who want to have a video news experience online will be able to rely on us for a wide range of news reports and major interviews."

CNN.com's new look enables easier movement around the site with a faster download of the home page; more headlines above the fold "Above the fold" is a graphic design concept that refers to the location of an important news story or a visually appealing photograph on the upper half of the front page of a newspaper.  at the top of the main news pages; and the introduction of highlight boxes with the latest headlines at the bottom of story pages. The new look incorporates an increased use of interactivity, such as polls and message boards and multimedia, all of which have proven to be popular with CNN.com's users.

The home page's new design allows users to chose different online news experiences: browsing, using the navigation menu; headlines and links to related stories and sites; multimedia relying on CNN Audioselect, a service offering live audio feed of five CNN networks, and CNN Videoselect; a quick read with News Summary, a constantly updated news summary; or customized, using CNN's acclaimed personalized per·son·al·ize

"As the leading source for breaking news on the Internet, we have worked hard to have an attractive home page, but one which anyone can access without long download times."

The top new features added to the site are:

-- Desktop Headlines: launched in a separate window, users can monitor the latest news while performing other tasks on their desktop and can click on scrolling (chat, games) scrolling - To flood a chat room or Internet game with text or macros in an attempt to annoy the occupants. This can often cause the chat room to be "uninhabitable" due to the "noise" created by the scroller. Compare spam.  headlines to obtain the full reports;

-- A breaking news banner added A graphic image used on Web sites to advertise a product or service. Banner ads come in numerous sizes, but are often rectangles 460 pixels wide by 60 pixels high. Also 460 x 55 and 392 x 72 sizes are commonly used.  to the home page to alert users;

-- Highlighted areas on the site to promote CNN.com's in-depth specials, material written exclusively for the Web by CNN correspondents around the world;

-- The newly titled Entertainment section, featuring the latest news about books, movies, television and music, including World Beat, a section dedicated to global music news set to launch June 6;

-- The addition of two new Travel categories: Pursuits, which introduces travelers to the world's culinary hotspots, as well as exploring outdoor activities and weekend getaways; and Essentials, a key resource center with a currency converter (1) A device that changes one set of codes, modes, sequences or frequencies to a different set.
