Judy Woodruff, 30-year veteran of broadcast journalism and CNN's prime anchor and senior correspondent, is the recipient of the 2003 International Matrix Award given by The Association for Women in Communications. AWC (Association for Women in Computing, San Francisco, CA, www.awc-hq.org) A membership organization, founded in 1978, dedicated to the advancement of women in computing. It publishes newsletters, hosts seminars and annual conferences and recognizes distinguished women in the field with its  presents this award to a communications professional for achieving the highest level of professional excellence.

 in 1993. She anchors Judy Woodruff's Inside Politics, the nation's first program devoted exclusively to politics, as well as CNN news coverage weekdays. In addition to her daily reporting duties, Woodruff reports on breaking political news stories and co-anchors CNN's special coverage of political events such as debates and major presidential speeches. She reported on every national political convention and presidential campaign since 1976. CNN received the 2002 Edward R. Murrow Award The Edward R. Murrow Award can mean:
  • The RTNDA Edward R. Murrow Award given out to broadcast news organizations by the Radio-Television News Directors Association since 1971
  • The Edward R. Murrow Award (WSU) given out to prominent broadcast journalists by the Edward R.
 in the Continuing Coverage category for its Sept. 11, 2001, coverage of the terrorist attacks, anchored by Woodruff and Aaron Brown

Before joining CNN, Woodruff was the chief Washington correspondent for The MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour. From 1984-1990, she anchored public television's award-winning weekly documentary series, Frontline with Judy Woodruff.

Woodruff is a founding co-chair of the International Women's Media Foundation The International Women’s Media Foundation is a network of thousands of women journalists working internationally to elevate the status of women in the media. The IWMF has created groundbreaking programs to help women in the media develop practical solutions to the obstacles , an organization dedicated to promoting and encouraging women in communication industries worldwide.

The International Matrix Award is given annually and recognizes communicators whose work exemplifies the founding principles and ideals of the association. First presented in 1998, previous recipients include Jane Pauley, Ellen Goodman, Diane Rehm, and Gail Evans, and Linda Haneborg. The award was presented at the Clarion/Matrix Awards Dinner, a highlight of AWC's Annual Professional Conference, held this year at The Adams Mark Hotel, Tulsa, Oklahoma, October 1-4, 2003.
