CNH consolidates Brazilian operations.

 Global is consolidating its manufacturing operations in Latin America as part of the company's plans to develop agricultural and construction products on global platforms. The reorganization, to occur over the next 12 months, involves consolidating production at existing CNH plants in Curitiba Curitiba (krētē`bä), city (1996 pop. 1,465,698), capital of Paraná state, SE Brazil. It was founded in 1654 but was of little significance until the late 19th and early 20th cent., Belo Horizonte Belo Horizonte (bəl'rēzôN`tĭ) [Port.,=beautiful horizon], city (1996 pop. 2,091,770), capital of Minas Gerais state, E Brazil. and Piracicabe in Brazil and to close the manufacturing plant in Sorocaba Sorocaba (srkä`bə), city (1996 pop. 431,370), São Paulo state, S Brazil, on the Sorocaba River., Brazil. Curitiba will become the center for tractor and combine production for Latin America, and Piracicaba Piracicaba (pērəsēkä`bə), city (1996 pop. 302,605), São Paulo state, SE Brazil, on the Piracicaba River. It is the processing center of a rich agricultural region where sugarcane, cotton, rice, corn, coffee, and many other products are grown; cachaça is distilled from sugarcane. will produce planting and sugar cane equipment and coffee harvesters.

Belo Horizonte will become the center of construction equipment manufacturing in Latin America. CNH also plans to create a central distribution facility in the Campinas Campinas (kəmpē`nəs), city (1996 pop. 907,996), São Paulo state, S Brazil. It is a growing industrial and financial city, the processing and distribution center for a diversified agricultural region, and a major transportation hub. Consumer products, agricultural tools, and railroad equipment are among its manufactures. region of Brazil that will provide replacement parts for the company's agricultural and construction equipment dealers and customers. Additionally, Banco New Holland, the company's financial services operation in Brazil, will become Banco CNH Capital.
