The event was the first in a series of investor briefings being conducted to provide a forum for investors to learn more about the business strategy for CNH Holdings. "We wanted to talk to investors about the fundamental economic shift that is occurring right now in the telecommunications space, and what we believe is a window of opportunity for Corvero Networks and CNH Holdings," said Miller. "Companies are spending billions of dollars to migrate from traditional telephone networks to the next generation of technology--IP Telephony (Internet Protocol-based telephone systems). For example, at the latest Supercomm 2003--a major Telecommunications industry event designed to highlight emerging technologies--all of the new products being announced were IP telephony-based technologies. The products based around traditional telephony were almost non-existent. According to according to prep. 1. As stated or indicated by; on the authority of: according to historians. 2. Corvero Networks, an IP telephony applications platform provider, and the first company within the CNH Holdings' stable, is already attracting significant customer and investor interest due to growing demand for IP telephony and its associated products." Greg Royal, Corvero's Chief Technology Officer (CTO (Chief Technical Officer) The executive responsible for the technical direction of an organization. He said, "we have invested heavily in research and development (R&D) specifically to make the Corvero Convergence Platform(TM) work seamlessly with Cisco's Call Manager(TM) platform. The Corvero Convergence Platform(TM) enables users to rapidly deploy IP telephone applications (phone features) like call recording, message broadcasting and paging and music-on-hold, amongst others, in a secure and reliable manner. We currently have the broadest suite of IP telephony applications based on a single platform, compared to any other solution provider, and will continue to roll out new feature-sets."
Key highlights from the briefing include:
1) A Fundamental Shift in the Economics for the Telco Industry
IP Telephony (Internet Protocol-based telephone system) is one
of the fastest growing technology categories today. It is a
major structural change in the telecommunications market,
driving a transition from traditional telephone systems to new
IP-based telephony technology. The predicted Compound Average
Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) for North America over the next 4
years is 47%.
Many thousands of companies upgraded their telephone systems
back in the late 1990's in preparation for the Year 2000, and
a large number of these companies opted for lease
arrangements. At the time, IP telephony was just emerging as a
competing technology to traditional telephony and was
considered too new and potentially unreliable for the majority
of buyers. Therefore, most companies selected traditional
telephone technology for their systems, and many chose to
lease their equipment in anticipation of the advent of IP
telephony. Over the next three to five years many of those
lease arrangements--billions of dollars worth--are coming up
for renewal, and most companies are planning to use the
opportunity to switch to the lower cost IP-based systems.
2) Closing the IP Phone Feature/Functionality Gap
IP telephony offers compelling new phone features not
available on traditional telephone systems, but still lacks
some feature sets some customers must have to support existing
business requirements. The major IP telephone system providers
are looking to their communities of application development
partners to help close the gap on feature sets for their
offerings.
3) Corvero's Convergence Platform(TM) - Creating IP Telephony
Applications for Today on a Platform Built for Tomorrow
In addition to developing IP telephony applications that close
the IP telephony feature gap, Corvero was the first to ship a
network appliance--the Corvero Convergence
Server(TM)--designed specifically for enabling these and other
IP telephony applications.
Corvero's technology also provides the "heavy lifting
integration" required within the enterprise for accessing data
in enterprise applications like SAP, Oracle, Siebel, and
others. The platform enables companies to substantially
increase the value of their IP telephony investment over time.
4) Investing in Technology Companies Who "Get It"
CNH Holdings is aggressively pursing acquisition candidates
that complement IP telephony offerings. These targets include
speech technology and integration platform companies, amongst
others. CNH will continue to build out the portfolio of
advanced technology companies.
