CNF Transportation Names Chutta Ratnathicam Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.

, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 14, 1997--CNF Transportation Inc., a $4 billion company with diversified transportation businesses worldwide, has named Chutta Ratnathicam as senior vice president and chief financial officer of the corporation.

He was most recently vice president-international for Emery Worldwide Emery Worldwide was a cargo airline, once was one of the leading carriers in the cargo airline world.

Emery started in 1946 and was the first freight forwarder to receive a carrier certificate from the United States Government.

Ratnathicam, 49, succeeds Gregory L. Quesnel, who earlier was elected president and chief operating officer Chief Operating Officer (COO)

. Ratnathicam will report to Donald E. Moffitt, chief executive officer and chairman of the Board of Directors of CNF Transportation, Inc.

As chief financial officer, Ratnathicam will be responsible for corporate finance, business planning, treasury operations, financial reporting, taxes, internal controls and administration for the parent corporation and its freight transportation subsidiaries.

Ratnathicam, a 19-year veteran of the freight transportation business, played a key role in profitably expanding Emery's international business from 25 percent to 42 percent of Emery's total sales, during his 6 years as vice president-international. In that position, he had primary executive responsibility for Emery's international organization, which encompasses service and agent locations in more than 95 countries throughout Europe, Asia and Latin America.

He also is credited with strengthening relationships with agents for ocean and air freight and, where applicable, converting these third-party relationships into company-operated service facilities.

Ratnathicam joined the CNF organization in 1977 as a corporate auditor with management experience at public accounting and various industrial firms in the United States, Asia and Africa. He was appointed assistant manger of general accounting in 1978, and later was elevated to director of financial accounting. In 1989, he was named vice president of internal auditing for the parent company, and in 1991 he was promoted to vice president-international, for Emery.
