(hardware, storage) Zip Drive - A disk drive from Iomega Corporation which takes removable 100 megabyte hard disks. Both internal and external drives are manufactured, making the drive suitable for backup, mass storage or for moving files between computers.
for the Compaq LTE The Compaq LTE was a line of laptop computers made by Compaq, introduced in 1989. The first models, the Compaq LTE and the Compaq LTE 286, were among the first computers to be the size of a paper notebook, spurring the use of the term "notebook" to describe a smaller laptop.  5000 Notebook and for the CNF InnerBay(TM) Dock.

This is the first internal Iomega Zip(TM) drive available for Compaq portables.

The InnerBay(TM) Zip drive fits directly into the multifunction peripheral bay, "MultiBay," of the Compaq LTE 5000 notebook computer A laptop computer that weighs in a range from five to seven pounds. The term originated when laptops were routinely more than 10 pounds, and those that became lighter were placed in a special "notebook" category. In practice, notebook computer and laptop computer are synonymous. . It also plugs directly into the Compaq's MultiBay docking station (1) A cradle for a portable device that serves to charge the unit and connect it to other sources or destinations. For example, an iPod docking station charges the iPod and connects it to a computer, speakers or TV set.  for the LTE (Long Term Evolution) See 3GPP.  5000 Family. The InnerBay Zip drive will behave like any other MultiBay peripheral.

The InnerBay Zip drive also fits directly into the new CNF, external multifunction peripheral bay, the InnerBay(TM) Dock for Compaq notebook computers. The InnerBay Dock supports all Compaq MultiBay peripherals. It attaches to all Compaq notebook computers through the PCMCIA (Personal Computer Memory Card International Association, San Jose, CA, www.pcmcia.org) An international standards body and trade association that was founded in 1989 to establish a standard for connecting peripherals to portable computers. PCMCIA created the PC Card. See PC Card.  slot. It, thus, makes the InnerBay Zip drive available to all Compaq notebook computers.

Product Compatibility

CNF's InnerBay Zip drive was developed using Iomega Corp.'s Zip drive for notebook computers. It uses standard 100 MB Zip disks readily available through most major, U.S. and worldwide, computer resellers.

The 100 megabyte Zip disk holds 70 times more information than the standard 1.44 MB floppy. The InnerBay Zip is, thus, large enough and fast enough to handle today's multimedia applications.

CNF also manufactures a new Universal Docking Station, Digitari(TM), that will feature an optional Zip disk drive. Both the InnerBay Zip and the Digitari Zip Drive use standard 100 MB Zip disks. The Iomega Zip drive The Zip drive is a medium-capacity removable disk storage system, introduced by Iomega in late 1994. Originally it had a capacity of 100 MB, but later versions increased this to first 250 MB and then 750 MB.  has gained significant market acceptance with more than 3 million units shipped worldwide. It is now positioned for strong penetration into the mobile computing market.

Phil Devin, vice president and chief analyst, storage technologies for Dataquest said, "The high capacity floppy replacement wars are raging; but, instead of talking about it, CNF has made it happen for mobile users."

According to Greg LeVeille, CNF vice president of marketing, "CNF prides itself on providing best-of-breed mobile computing solutions. The Iomega Zip drive technology is a very exciting addition to the CNF and Compaq product lines.
