Marie (nicknamed "the Sault" or "the Soo") is a city on the St. Marys River in Ontario, Canada. -- CN announced today that employees represented by the Algoma Central Association of Railway Unions have ratified a five-year labour contract with the company. The agreement applies to 115 active employees in north-central Ontario. The agreement, retroactive to Feb. 1, 2005, and ending Jan. 31, 2010, provides improved wages and benefits similar to those in CN's labour settlements with other Canadian unions. The association of railway unions bargains on behalf of labour organizations representing operating, clerical, maintenance and mechanical employees on CN's Algoma Central Railway The Algoma Central Railway (AAR reporting marks AC, ACIS) was a railway in Northern Ontario that ran between Sault Ste. Marie and Hearst, with a branch line to Michipicoten. The area served by the railway is sparsely populated, with few roads. (ACR) unit. The ACR, now part of CN's Eastern Canada Region, was purchased by CN as part of its acquisition of Wisconsin Central Transportation Corp. in 2001. With the ratification of the ACR contract, CN has completed negotiations to renew all of its labour contracts in Canada.
