The new service includes tracing for all CN shipments, whether they are traveling on CN trains, or those of 130 other railways throughout North America. For CN customers, the new service's useful applications include shipment tracking and direct electronic communication with CN's Customer Support Centre. Instant shipment status and location updates are available to customers through CN's home page, http://www.cn.ca. To access the system, customers only need Internet access, using a graphical World Wide Web browser. Because the new shipment tracking capability is part of CN's web site, it is available to all customers with computer platforms that support web browsing. Internet Shipment Tracking is linked in real time to CN's advanced computer technology, Service Reliability Strategy (SRS SRS, SRS-A see slow-reacting substance. ). The sophisticated SRS information system manages individual shipment movements to meet customer goals and specific delivery plans, and monitors shipments to ensure that commitments are met. "As new technologies develop, CN is continually looking for ways to apply them in order to enhance customer service," adds Mr. Tellier. "The Internet Shipment Tracking Service, coupled with SRS, is a prime example of technology in action for CN customers."
