.) Canadian National Railway Company Canadian National Railway Company (NYSE: CNI, TSX: CNR) is a Canadian rail transportation company that operates the Canadian National Railway. It was created in December, 1918 as a Crown corporation of the Government of Canada to nationalize several bankrupt rail systems  officially inaugurated its new Gateway Intermodal Terminal today at Harvey, Illinois Harvey is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 30,000, at the 2000 census.but a 2003 Census estimate showed the population dipped to 29,367. The ZIP code is 60426. , just outside Chicago. The new facility provides ready access to other major rail networks, as well as Interstates 294, 94, 80 and 57, and Illinois 1.

"The inauguration of our new gateway Intermodal Terminal is an important part of CN's major commitment in the Chicago area," says Paul Tellier Paul M. Tellier, PC , CC , LL.L (born 1939) is a prominent Canadian businessperson. Born in Joliette, Quebec, Tellier was educated at Université Laval and Oxford University. He practised law in Montreal, Quebec until entering Canada's civil service in the 1970s. , CN President and Chief Executive Officer. "The commitment goes far beyond Chicago, however, providing CN customers with easier access to U.S., Canadian and global markets. Gateway is "the hub within The Hub."

The new 75-acre facility operates 16 hours a day, six days a week. With two front-lift mobile cranes plus a high-speed mobile crane, the terminal is equipped to handle 225,000 lifts per year, with storage for 2,065 containers and 1,110 trailers. The terminal is also built to accommodate 7,000-foot double stack trains, thanks to two 7,200-foot loading/unloading tracks.

First-year traffic predictions call for 100,000 to 120,000 intermodal unit movements through Gateway, and an average gate handling time of two to three minutes "Three Minutes" is the 46th episode of Lost. It is the twenty-second episode of the second season. The episode was directed by Stephen Williams, and written by Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz. It first aired on May 17, 2006 on ABC. . This represents a significant improvement over the usual five- to six-minute gate handling times. The new facility's yard and storage areas have been structured to promote maximum efficiency in all aspects of the operation: in-gate activities, train loading and out-gate dispatching.

"Gateway is just one part of CN's major customer-service improvement strategy," adds Tellier. "Each strategy component is designed to promote better, easier and quicker access for domestic and overseas traffic throughout the CN system. For instance, CN's new OASIS Intermodal terminal Management System, allows for faster trucker turnaround, more effective loading and train-space usage, and better container and chassis utilization."

The Gateway Intermodal Terminal complements other elements of CN's strategy to increase its United States presence. Those other strategy components include the St. Clair Tunnel The St. Clair Tunnel is the name for two separate rail tunnels which were built under the St. Clair River between Sarnia, Ontario and Port Huron, Michigan. , which reduces transit times from the U.S. industrial heartland to ocean ports, as well as alliances with some of North America's major rail and road carriers. Together, these initiatives represent a substantial investment in CN's capacity enhancements in the United States.

CN Intermodal continues to be North America's fastest-growing intermodal unit. It recently reported an 11 percent revenue increase for the first quarter of 1997, compared to the same period last year. CN Intermodal offers coast-to-coast service, and serves the key ports of Vancover, Montreal and Halifax, as well as Chicago and Detroit, with connections to all points in North America. CN is Canada's largest and North America's sixth largest freight railroad, based on 1996 revenues of $4.2 billion.
