 Safe Handling Awards for 2002 to 118 industrial facilities. Sixty-nine of these facilities are located in Canada and 49 are in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area. .

First introduced in 1992, Safe Handling Awards are presented each year to CN customers that load 100 or more tank cars with dangerous goods

CN has also presented Corporate Safe Handling Awards and Continuous Improvement Awards since 1999. Corporate Safe Handling Awards are presented to companies whose combined facilities ship more than 5,000 loaded tank cars of dangerous goods and meet Safe Handling Awards criteria.
