CNR - Communication and Network Riser .TO) announced today that it is the first North American railroad to gain membership in the U.S. Customs Service's Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT). C-TPAT is a joint government-business initiative designed to build cooperative relationships that strengthen overall supply chain and border security. CN's C-TPAT membership is an extension of CN's existing participation in U.S. Customs' Carrier Initiative Program that is directed at countering narcotics and smuggling. Paul M. Tellier, CN's president and chief executive officer, said: "CN's participation in C-TPAT demonstrates our commitment to ensuring the highest level of integrity in our security practices and making sure we communicate the security guidelines to all of our partners in the supply chain." C-TPAT participants must agree to a series of initiatives, including: a comprehensive self-assessment of supply chain security; completion of a supply chain security questionnaire; development of a program to enhance security throughout the supply chain in accordance with C-TPAT security recommendations; and communication of C-TPAT security recommendations to other companies in the supply chain and working toward building the security recommendations into relationships with these companies.
