CMS offers streamlined MDS. (NH News Notes).

 Assessment Form--will take only 45 minutes to complete, according to CMS, compared to the 90 minutes required for the full MDS. The new form can be used to update a Medicare beneficiary's condition on days 5, 14,30, 60 and 90 of a nursing home stay. The full MDS will still be required for each resident no later than 14 days after the resident's admission, as well as to conduct an annual assessment and to note a significant change in a resident's status.

 Secretary Tommy Thompson said in the release. "This change in Medicare requirements reflects our commitment to restoring common sense to the regulatory process so that Americans can receive quality healthcare without creating needless hassles for nurses and other healthcare professionals."
