CMS Peripherals(R) (CMS) today announced the availability of a new FireWire version of its ABSplus system. The ABSplus is the industry's first comprehensive all-in-one automatic backup solution providing users with complete disaster recovery capabilities, advanced proprietary software and a bootable, removable hard drive in an enhanced rugged design. The FireWire ABSplus delivers unsurpassed security and peace of mind to mobile notebook users.

CMS will demonstrate its latest version of the ABSplus, along with its complete ABSplus product line for notebook and desktop computers and other mass storage solutions, at TechXNY's PC Expo in New York. CMS will be located at Booth #2936 during the show.

Through the adoption of FireWire technology, ABSplus customers can expect data transfer rates of 408 Mb/s. This high-speed data transfer rate provides enough throughput to transfer streaming audio and video files, while at the same time making backup quick and easy, and thus painless even to the most novice user.

The ABSplus is an easy-to-use, pocket-sized, plug-and-play device controlled by CMS' powerful patent pending backup software. This full-featured software performs a complete backup of the host notebook's entire hard drive once the ABSplus is connected. One of the innovative features of this proprietary software is the Automatic Launcher, which monitors and launches backups upon connection of the ABSplus unit. The Automatic Launcher eliminates the hassle associated with manual backup. By automatically activating the backup, users are ensured data stored on the ABSplus is as safe and up-to-date as possible.

All ABSplus products incorporate a Disaster Recovery option, which allows users to solve operating system and hardware failures. Regardless of the cause of the failure, the Disaster Recovery option provides users with a variety of methods to recover data and guard against lost files or folders due to system or complete hard drive failures. This reduces any potential downtime and increases return on investment by the reduction in Help Desk or IT department involvement.

One such disaster recovery feature is the addition of complete system bootability. In the event of a total hard drive failure, simply turn a couple of screws and replace the failed notebook hard drive with the ABSplus hard drive. Users can re-boot their system to find all of the applications, configurations and data intact as stored to the ABSplus since the last backup.

All backed up data stored on the ABSplus is saved in native file format to provide fast, easy data recovery and access. It can also be connected to a compatible notebook and used as an external hard drive. This provides users an added level of data insurance in the event of notebook theft. For ongoing backup maintenance, CMS developed FastSync to monitor the host computer's hard drive for new or changed files. Once it identifies a change, the system backs the files up automatically in the background without affecting overall system performance.

The new bootable notebook ABSplus, with an interface choice of PCMCIA, FireWire or USB 2.0, is now shipping with a 3-year warranty in capacities of 20GB, 30GB, 40GB and 60GB solutions. Pricing starts at $299.00. Higher capacity Desktop ABSplus solutions with an interface choice of Firewire or USB 2.0 are available in capacities of 40GB, 60GB, 80GB, 120GB and 160GB (FireWire version only) with a 3-year warranty.
