Peripherals(R) Tuesday announced the first shipments of a 48GB capacity solution.

The pocket-sized ABSplus provides users with additional external storage, notebook backup as well as complete data recovery. The first fully self-contained portable backup solution, the ABSplus requires no additional cables, power source, docking station (1) A cradle for a portable device that serves to charge the unit and connect it to other sources or destinations. CMS also announced that several models of their Easy-Plug Easy-Go line of notebook hard drive upgrades and EasyBundle(R) line of notebook hard drive upgrades with data transfer kits, will now offer 48GB capacity solutions.

Designed to provide notebook users with single command restoration of corrupted files, the ABSplus includes a Rescue Disk designed to completely restore the notebook drive from the ABSplus drive. Configured with a removable hard drive and instant Disaster Recovery (DR) software making the ABS drive bootable, the ABSplus also prevents user downtime caused by complete notebook hard drive failure.

Within minutes, ABSplus users can replace their failed notebook hard drive with the ABS hard drive. After powering up the notebook, users have complete access to all backed-up data, files, contact information and applications with minimal downtime.

Initially, only selected models of the Easy-Plug Easy-Go notebook hard drives and EasyBundle data transfer kits will be available in the new 48GB capacity. All of CMS' notebook hard drive upgrades and data transfer kits are tested to meet or exceed the original notebook manufacturer's drive specifications.

Offering support for over 600 models of portable notebook computers, EasyBundle includes a CMS Easy-Plug Easy-Go notebook hard drive, CMS software for Windows(R) 95/98/NT 4.0/Me and 2000 operating systems Operating systems can be categorized by technology, ownership, licensing, working state, usage, and by many other characteristics. "With the new 48GB 2 1/2-inch hard drives, we are able to meet or exceed the storage requirements of most notebook users," said Ken Burke, president of CMS Peripherals. "In most cases, when there is nothing wrong with the notebook itself, it is simply more economical to upgrade the hard drive.

"With the Easy-Plug Easy-Go notebook hard drives and EasyBundle data transfer kits, we make that task more feasible. With the ABSplus, users have additional external storage, as well as unmatched data recovery capability."

Using PCMCIA (Personal Computer Memory Card International Association, San Jose, CA, www.pcmcia.org) An international standards body and trade association that was founded in 1989 to establish a standard for connecting peripherals to portable computers. PCMCIA created the PC Card. See PC Card.  for fast, easy data transfer, the self-contained card simply flips out from the underside of the ABSplus, and the entire unit plugs directly into the notebook. Providing virtually hands-free operation, the ABSplus provides complete, automatic installation upon connection.

A patent-pending automatic launcher initiates a backup of the entire host-drive, including multiple partitions and formats in native file format. Subsequent backups are incremental, saving valuable user time and notebook power. For sharing large files, the ABSplus easily bridges the gap between the desktop, notebook and hand-held PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) A handheld computer for managing contacts, appointments and tasks.
