CMS ENERGY UNIT JOINS PHILIPPINE POWER PROJECT

 DEARBORN, Mich., Aug. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- CMS Energy Corporation (NYSE: CMS) today announced that its independent power unit, CMS Generation Company, has acquired a 50-percent interest in Luzon Power Associates, which will develop a 400-megawatt oil-fueled power project on the island of Luzon in the Philippines.
 CMS Generation said electricity from the plant will be sold to the Manila Electric Company under a power contract already signed by the utility and Luzon Power. The Philippine Department of Energy has accredited the project and all other necessary government approvals are on schedule. The Manila Electric Company, the largest private electric utility in the Philippines, supplies power to the country's capital and surrounding provinces.
 The plant will be built near the city of Batangas at an estimated cost of $500 million. CMS Generation said construction is expected to begin in the first half of 1994, following completion of all project financing.
 Other partners in the project include Meralco Industrial Engineering Services Corporation of Manila (MIESCOR) and Altresco Philippines, Inc. of Denver.
 MIESCOR is a Philippine construction and engineering services corporation with offices in the Philippines, Atlanta, and Singapore. MIESCOR provides engineering support for projects spanning the globe.
 Altresco Philippines, Inc. is a U.S. independent power developer, whose founder has substantial experience in the successful development of power projects in the United States.
 CMS Generation Co. is the independent power production unit of CMS Energy Corporation. CMS is one of the nation's top five independent power producers with interests in 3,567 megawatts from 10 operating power plants in the United States and South America. CMS Energy was the lead developer of the Midland Cogeneration Venture (MCV), a 1,370- megawatt cogeneration facility in Midland, Mich., the largest such project in operation in North America.
