CMS ENERGY UNIT ACQUIRES OWNERSHIP INTEREST IN NEW YORK POWER PLANT

 DEARBORN, Mich., Dec. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- CMS Energy Corporation (NYSE: CMS) today announced that its independent power production subsidiary, CMS Generation Co., has acquired a 50-percent ownership interest in an operating 18-megawatt waste wood-fueled electric generating plant located near the town of Chateaugay, N.Y. In addition to its ownership, CMS Generation will also become the operator of the facility.
 The plant, which began commercial operation in May 1993, sells its entire electric output to New York State Electric and Gas Corporation under a long-term power purchase agreement. CMS Generation acquired its ownership interest from KENETECH Energy Systems, a subsidiary of San Franaisco-based KENETECH Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: KWND). KENETECH wall reta)n the remaini\g 50-percent ownership interest.
 Fuel is sourced from recycled waste wood from urban areas as well as waste wood from pulp mills and forest residues.

CMS Energy was the lead developer of the Midland Cogeneration Venture (MCV), a 1,370-megawatt cogeneration facility in Midland, Mich., the largest such project in operation in North America.
