CMD Technology Announces New Family of Universal Serial Bus Keyboard Controllers; Low Cost, Innovative Solutions for Connecting USB Keyboards Now in Volume Production.

IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 17, 1997--CMD Technology, the recognized leader in USB USB
 in full Universal Serial Bus

Type of serial bus that allows peripheral devices (disks, modems, printers, digitizers, data gloves, etc.) to be easily connected to a computer.
keyboard chip solutions with design wins at most major keyboard manufacturers, Monday announced a new family of USB keyboard controllers: the Constellation II and Constellation III USB keyboard controller ASICs, and the Galaxy I integrated USB hub/keyboard controller ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) Pronounced "a-sick." A chip that is custom designed for a specific application rather than a general-purpose chip such as a microprocessor.  .

These new ASICs provide expanded capabilities for connecting PS/2 mice directly to USB keyboards and adding USB hub A device that increases the number of USB ports on a PC. However, since the hub plugs into one of the USB ports on the computer, the total number of additional ports is minus one. For example, a four-port hub adds three new ports.  capabilities to USB keyboards.

"CMD CMD cerebromacular degeneration.  has long been a pioneer in the USB keyboard controller arena and was the first company to announce a USB keyboard controller chip and to ship in high volumes. Additionally, CMD leads the market with valuable innovations like the ability to attach PS/2 mice directly to USB keyboards," said David Murray David Murray may refer to:

  • David Murray, 2nd Earl of Mansfield, 7th Viscount Stormont (1727-1796)
  • David Murray (CEO), CEO of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia
  • David Murray (computer scientist)
, director of semiconductor marketing for CMD. "We've now added more advanced features like the option to integrate external components and a vast array of multimedia options including CD-ROM/DVD and volume control at a cost that rivals older PS/2 keyboard See PS/2 connector.  controllers."

Constellation II

The Constellation II USB keyboard controller ASIC is CMD's second generation of keyboard controllers. Containing all the features of the flagship 678 KMp USB keyboard controller design, CMD has now added more advanced features like the option to integrate external components such as VID/PID ROM and a vast array of multimedia options including CD-ROM/DVD and volume control.

CMD is currently in full production with this chip and will be shipping by the end of the year. Pricing in OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  quantities start at $2.75.

Constellation III

The Constellation III USB keyboard controller ASIC is CMD's third generation of keyboard controllers and is highlighted by the industry's most feature rich, low cost ASIC architecture. Like Constellation II, this ASIC contains all the features of the flagship 678 KMp USB keyboard controller design, with an even higher level of optimization, resulting in the lowest possible fabrication fabrication (fab´rikā´shn),

costs for a USB controller chip.

Additionally, all external components are integrated into this custom controller, bringing the cost of USB keyboards based on the chip in line with older PS/2 keyboard build costs.

CMD is currently in full production with this chip and will be shipping by first quarter 1998. Pricing in OEM quantities start at $2.50.

Galaxy I

CMD's Galaxy I is the world's first USB keyboard hub controller to combine the proven reliability of CMD's Constellation series keyboard chips with the latest USB hub technology in a single low cost chip. Additionally, it offers full USB hub capabilities with up to three downstream ports for connecting USB peripherals directly to the keyboard.

CMD is currently in full production with this chip and will be shipping by first quarter 1998. Pricing in OEM quantities start at $2.75.

All CMD Constellation and Galaxy keyboard controllers are designed to work seamlessly with all UHCI UHCI Universal Host Controller Interface  and OpenHCI-based USB host controllers, including CMD's own PCI (1) (Payment Card Industry) See PCI DSS.
