CMD Technology Announces LVD Version of its CRD-5640 Redundant Hot-Pluggable, Ultra SCSI RAID Controller.

IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 25, 1999--CMD Technology, the recognized leader in advanced RAID controller technology, introduced today a new version of its highly successful CRD-5640 dual redundant, hot-pluggable, active/active Ultra SCSI RAID controller.

This addition complements previously introduced high-voltage differential and single-ended models by providing an all Low Voltage Differential (hardware) Low Voltage Differential - (LVD) A method of driving SCSI cables that will be formalised in the SCSI-3 specifications. LVD uses less power than the current differential drive (HVD), is less expensive and will allow the higher speeds of Ultra-2 SCSI. LVD requires 3.  (LVD See LVDS.

Additionally, LVD provides backward compatibility with single-ended devices ensuring the protection of previous storage investments.

"We are pleased to bring LVD technology to this product family," stated Steve Garceau, CMD CMD cerebromacular degeneration.  product marketing manager. "Greater configuration flexibility, without sacrificing legacy storage compatibility, offers significant value to OEMs and integrators seeking storage solutions that address a wide range of applications."

The CRD-5640 RAID controller family has won the Editor's Choice Award from VAR Business magazine, achieved Microsoft certification for Windows NT 4.0, and has been awarded the "Extended Data Availability and Protection" (EDAP EDAP Eating Disorders Awareness and Prevention

The CRD-5640 features high-performance active/active dual redundant RAID controllers. In the event of a failure, the surviving controller automatically and transparently assumes 100 percent of the responsibilities and workload so that operation is not interrupted. Upon hot-replacement of a failed controller, CMD's AutoRebind(TM) technology reconfigures the redundant controller pair to the state that existed just prior to the failure -- without the need for user intervention or interruption. The controller also implements mirrored cache memory and an advanced media management scheme to ensure complete protection of data.

The CRD-5640 comes in a compact 5.25-inch form-factor full-height canister that houses dual controllers, allowing for easy implementation into almost any standard storage or server enclosure. This is 50% smaller than many competitive offerings. The new LVD version supports that attachment of up to 42 SCSI SCSI
