CMD RAIDs The Market. The latest member of the CMD CMD cerebromacular degeneration. Titan family is an entry-level RAID controller A disk controller card that supports one or more RAID configurations. Originally only for SCSI drives, RAID controllers have become very popular for PATA and SATA drives. See RAID. that provides a component for constructing Storage Area Network (SAN) subsystems. The CRD-7220 Fibre Channel/Ultra2 RAID controller will serve high-end fault tolerance See fault tolerant. (architecture) fault tolerance - 1. The ability of a system or component to continue normal operation despite the presence of hardware or software faults. This often involves some degree of redundancy. 2. and performance that are cornerstones of the CMD Titan architecture. "The [controller] parallels the data integrity and performance of our enterprise class CRA-7280," said Steve Garceau, product marketing manager of CMD. "The [new product] will fill a need in the redundant controller market and will make our product line attractive to a range of OEMs and integrators." The product's Titan architecture delivers features that are essential to data-intensive, mission-critical environments. Features include CMD Technology's new RAID Management System (RMS) software for controller configuration and management, automatic fail-over and CMD's AutoRebind (fail-back) for, access environments, Ethernet for remote configuration and monitoring, online RAID-set expansion for flexibility, online firmware updates for availability, the company's new SANmask LUN masking for secure disk access in shared storage environments, and RAID-set creation to produce usable data storage. Specifications include dual 100MB/sec Fibre Channel host interfaces, two 80MB/sec Ultra2 Low Voltage Differential (hardware) Low Voltage Differential - (LVD) A method of driving SCSI cables that will be formalised in the SCSI-3 specifications. LVD uses less power than the current differential drive (HVD), is less expensive and will allow the higher speeds of Ultra-2 SCSI. LVD requires 3. (LVD See LVDS. LVD - Low Voltage Differential ) SCSI SCSI in full Small Computer System Interface Once common standard for connecting peripheral devices (disks, modems, printers, etc.) to small and medium-sized computers. SCSI has given way to faster standards, such as Firewire and USB. disk interfaces, support for up to 28 disk drives, and up to 1GB of cache. The CRD-7220 is packaged in an industry-standard 5.25-inch canister for enclosure integration and features a front panel that allows OEMs to customize its appearance. The RAID controller is also available as a board-level product for OEMs. Availability is scheduled for the second quarter in 2000. |
