CMAA forms strategic alliance with OSHA--efforts to focus on hazard communication, respiratory protection, record-keeping.

"CMAA has a long and distinguished service, to workers in the club work environments and we're pleased that they recognize the value of ensuring safety and health protection for those workers," said OSHA Administrator John Henshaw John Henshaw (born 1951) is a British actor famed for his roles as Ken the landlord in Early Doors, Wilf Bradshaw in Born and Bred and PC Roy Bramwell in The Cops. He is sometimes associated with playing "hard men". . "Through this alliance, we hope to enhance the training, education and tools that will promote even healthier work environments for the thousands of workers in the industry."

CMAA member-managed clubs employ more than 302,000 people nationwide, and these clubs recognize the value in protecting their greatest assets--their employees. We look forward to a productive and positive partnership."

Concentrating on hazard communication, record-keeping, and respiratory protection issues, OSHA and CMAA will develop and make available training courses, educational programs, and "toll box talks" to CMAA members in both English and Spanish, and electronic assistance tools for youth workers. Both organizations will encourage CMAA's chapters, student chapters, and colonies at colleges and universities to build relationships with OSHA's regional and area offices to address health and safety issues and to increase Spanish-speaking workers' access to, and understanding of, safety and health information and available training resources.

OSHA and CMAA plan to develop and disseminate information through various print and electronic media and through both organizations' websites. Outreach and communication goals will also be met through speeches, exhibits, appearances at conferences or local meetings, or other events such as CMAA's Annual Conference being held in Anaheim, CA, in February 2004. Participation in forums, roundtable discussions, and conferences On youth worker outreach and the three focus issues is also on tap to help raise safety awareness in the club industry.
