CMA Management Reader Survey Results -- So Far, So Good.

In May 2000, CMA Management conducted an online survey to find out what our readers think of the magazine's new look, style and content. The purpose of the survey was to provide you with an opportunity to tell us how we can improve the quality of the magazine to better suit your information needs.

We received a total of 1,741 responses in both English and French. The following highlights some of this year's survey results:

* 72% of respondents have been reading CMA Management magazine for more than two years

* Current readers spend as much time with CMA Management as they do with other regular business publications they read

* Among the most read sections of the magazine are Information Technology, Management Trends and Business Strategies

* 64.4% of respondents read selected articles/sections and look through the rest of the magazine

* Atlantic readers are more likely to read the entire magazine

* Feature articles are particularly popular among Quebec readers

* While both CMA members and non-members have a fairly positive attitude toward the magazine, the appeal to nonmembers is even more favourable in terms of content and relevance of articles

* Some readers would like to see more articles focused on tax strategies, student-related issues, healthcare management, personal finance, entrepreneurship and the not-for-profit and volunteer sector

* The overall rating of CMA Management was 3.28 out of 4

Reader profile

Personal information about our readership was also compiled to create an average reader profile. We would like to reassure those who completed the survey that all responses will be kept strictly confidential.

Based on the 1,741 reader responses, the average reader of CMA Management magazine is 38 years old and has a gross annual income of $68,380. Sixty-nine per cent of our readers are male and 31% are female. The majority of respondents (18%) work in the manufacturing sector, followed by government (9.2%), financial (9%), technology (8.7%), and consulting (7.2%). Just over 15% of respondents work as analysts, 12.9% hold positions as controllers, 8.8% are accounting managers and 6.4% are consultants. Nineteen per cent of readers work for a company with 100 to 499 employees, while 18.5% work in a company with over 5000 employees. The average reader works in a company that employees 1,720 people.

Readers spend an average of 26 hours a month on the Internet. Nine per cent consider themselves experts when it comes to surfing the Web, while 37% say they are advanced, and 47% rate their experience as intermediate, leaving 7% at the beginner level.
