Crespi 23, Quartz Hill 6: Quartz Hill running back Raneil Calvin turned in another outstanding performance, but the JV Rebels lost at Crespi.

Calvin gained 150 yards in 15 carries and scored Quartz Hill's only touchdown on a 1-yard run. The stocky sophomore now has 330 yards and four TDs in two games.

Quartz Hill, which beat L.A. Baptist 32-6 in its opener, is 1-1.

Hill spent four years at Xavier University, averaging on his last season 20.2 points and 12.6 rebounds per game, while shooting 58.  added an 8-yard TD run.

Quarterback Place (5-11, 170), who was 14 for 26 for 165 yards against Barstow, has been the Antelopes' most productive player. Place was 13 for 30 for 120 yards in an opening 32-14 loss to Newbury Park.

``There are four really good sophomores playing varsity this season,'' JV coach Brett Pape said, ``and they're all skill-position players, so we're a little thin at the skill positions.''

AV hosts Sylmar in JV action on Friday at 4 p.m.

Saugus 49, Palmdale 18: David Parker passed for two touchdowns and rushed for two others, and Cheyne Flatt rushed for 120 yards in 10 carries and scored twice to lead the Centurions at College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation. .

In other JV games: Littlerock (2-0) beat Hesperia 34-8 and has outscored its opponents 83-8. Lancaster lost 21-7 to Sultana. The JV Eagles, 10-0 last year, are 0-2.
