SANTA CLARITA Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987.  last week at the offices of The Newhall Land and Farming Company The Newhall Land and Farming Company is a land management company based in Valencia, California, United States. The company is responsible for the master community planning of Valencia, as well as the management of farm land elsewhere in the state. , a fund-raiser expected to attract up to 20,000 people to bid on 100 elaborately decorated tannenbaums.

Professionals and other talented designers will be called upon to decorate trees, wreaths and gift packages for the festival, scheduled for Nov. 19-22.

Money will be raised through corporate sponsorships, the donation of decorated trees, sale of trees and other items at the festival and an entry fee.

``We believe the Festival of Trees will become a holiday tradition for families every year on the weekend before Thanksgiving,'' said Judy Belue, of the Boys & Girls Club.

The goal is to help raise enough money to offset the $300,000 increase in the club's operating budget since a new clubhouse opened this month in Canyon Country. That chapter, on the grounds of Sierra Vista Junior High School, provides after-school programs for about 2,000 members.

Gary and Myrna Condie are chairing the festival, modeled after similar events across the nation and Canada.
