The loss eliminated McMurry from the regional. Earlier in the day, McMurry beat Cal Lutheran-rival Chapman University to oust the Panthers.

Southwestern (36-10) is 2-0 in the tourney, meaning CLU must beat the Pirates twice today to advance to the Division III championships next weekend in Salem, Va.

In the first game of the day against Southwestern, CLU's Malchow, Donny Churchman and Richard Hernandez homered. Still, the Pirates scored four runs apiece in the sixth and eighth innings to build an 8-3 lead.
