CLU NOTES : SOFTBALL TEAM GETS BACK TO BASICS TO END SKID.

Byline: Gerry Gittelson Daily News Staff Writer

Cal Lutheran's softball team hopes to snap a two-game losing streak at Occidental on Thursday by improving its defense.

``We're in a transitional period,'' said coach Keicia Davis, whose team lost twice last Saturday to Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  College 3-2 and 6-2. ``We've just got to get past the errors and play more solid ball. We made five or six errors (last weekend), and that just doesn't help. We did not play real well.''

The Regals (14-5-1, 11-1) set high standards after winning 14 of their first 15.

``Hopefully we can get back together as a team and attack on offense and play solid defense,'' Davis said. ``That's the way we've been winning games.''

Davis said a game against Claremont-Mudd on Friday is the toughest matchup on the schedule.

``We split with Claremont in conference, and just like everyone else in conference, they're out to get us,'' she said.
