CLU NOTES: DONOVAN CONTINUES HIS DISCUS SUCCESS.Byline: Patrick Hipes Daily News Staff Writer Don't underestimate Cal Lutheran discus thrower Kyle Donovan if he seems a bit underwhelmed by his achievements already this spring. It's just that he's been doing it for so long. ``I've been throwing since the sixth grade,'' said the junior, who also starts on the Kingsmen defensive line in football. ``We had a track team in junior high in Colorado, and I competed through high school in the Bay Area.'' Now a seasoned veteran, Donovan is throwing like one. Two weekends ago, he threw a NCAA NCAA abbr. National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III

I'm still trying to get the technique back to where I was.'' It's looking as though he's doing just that. Back on track: After dropping three consecutive games in the California Invitational Tournament last weekend, the CLU baseball team rebounded for a three-game sweep of Pomona-Pitzer this weekend, running its record to 18-5, 14-1 in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) is a college athletic conference that operates in the NCAA's Division III. The Kingsmen needed extra innings in the finale of the three-game series. Clint Britt hit a two-run homer to tie the game 6-6, then doubled home the game-winner in the 10th. Britt is hitting .353 on the season. It was a nice change for the Kingsmen from last weekend's tourney, when CLU dropped three consecutive one-run games. In Friday's season opener, the Kingsmen jumped to a 12-2 lead before holding on for a 15-12 victory. Hot topic: Second baseman Joseph Jauregui has hit in 22 consecutive games dating back to last season. He's hitting .493. El Nino wins: The CLU softball team was washed out of its Saturday doubleheader at home against Claremont-Mudd Scripps. The Regals (11-13, 3-1) have won three consecutive games, the last a 6-5 victory over Carleton (Minn.) at the Sun West Classic in Orange. The games will be rescheduled to April 8 at CLU. It was the same problem for the track team, which missed out on the Vince Reel Invitational at Claremont. In its place, CLU has added a meet Saturday at UC Riverside. Golf rolling: The CLU golf team is 6-0, 3-0 in SCIAC play after a victory over Occidental on Thursday at Sunset Hills. The Kingsmen shot a collective 296 on the day, tying them for the third-lowest team total in school history. Camp set: The Cal Lutheran baseball program is offering one spring session of the Cal Lu Dawg's Baseball Camp on April 6-9 at North Field. The camp, for ages 6-16, will take place daily from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and feature instruction from Kingsmen baseball coaches.
