CLU NOTEBOOK: CLU IS PLEASED WITH CROSS COUNTRY MEET.

Byline: Jim Inghram Daily News Staff Writer

Earlier this month, Cal Lutheran's men's and women's cross country teams hosted just the third race at the school this decade.

It went so well there are already plans to make it an annual event.

``Everything went great,'' women's coach Ken Roupe said. ``We had a good draw and next year we hope to have a bigger field.''

The women's team was the overall winner in its division and the men's team place third.

``The whole atmosphere around the event was incredible,'' Roupe said. ``It was homecoming Homecoming

Everyone PR'ed (personal record) and I think that was from a combination of them knowing the course and getting great support. We had students and fans at the start, finish and lining the course. They were very vocal and it seemed to really help.''

In the 5-kilometer women's race, Andrea Crane (Quartz Hill) was third overall with a time of 20 minutes, 34.99 seconds. Cindy Ham (Yreka) was fifth at 20:51.43, Lisa Pierce (Walnut Creek Walnut Creek, residential city (1990 pop. 60,569), Contra Costa co., W Calif., in the San Francisco Bay area; inc. 1914. Geir Christensen was the top finisher for the men over the 8-kilometer course. The sophomore from Norway was fourth in 27:27.95. Karl Stutelburg (Henderson, Nev.) was 12th at 29:13.75 and Arnie Camp (Yucca Valley) was 17th in 30:01.56.

``It was a big thing to run at the school,'' men's coach Brady Day said. ``It's the best place we've run this year.''

Add cross country: Both teams will participate in the SCIAC SCIAC SIGINT Correlation Integration & Analysis Capability  Championships at Prado Park in Chino Chino (chē`nō), city (1990 pop. 59,682), San Bernardino co., S Calif.; founded 1887, inc. 1910. The lone senior on the women's team is Kirsten Kramer of Anchorage.

``Almost everyone will be back and if we have a good recruiting year like we did this year,'' Roupe said, ``we should move into the upper echelon of the conference.''
