CLU FACES STRONGEST FOE.Byline: Vincent Bonsignore Daily News Staff Writer The California Lutheran University Mission statement The University's mission statement is as follows: "California Lutheran University is a diverse, scholarly community dedicated to excellence in the liberal arts and professional studies. Kingsmen today will face probably their toughest game of the season. Despite being on the losing end of a 40-22 score, the Kingsmen are coming off a respectable showing against Azusa Pacific. But they will need to march uphill all the way this afternoon against the Chapman University Chapman University is a private, nonprofit university located in the city of Orange in Orange County, California, USA. Mission statement The mission of Chapman University is to provide personalized education of distinction that leads to inquiring, ethical and productive Panthers. The Panthers are 3-0 for the season and coming off a 44-15 victory over Cal State Chico in which they amassed 482 yards of offense. Their top running back is one of the best in the country and averages 194 yards per game. Their first-string defense has given up just one touchdown so far this season, and their 11-game winning streak Noun 1. winning streak - a streak of wins streak, run - an unbroken series of events; "had a streak of bad luck"; "Nicklaus had a run of birdies" is the second longest in Division III

For better or worse, Cal Lutheran (0-3) will find out starting at 1 p.m. at its own Mount Clef Stadium. The Kingsmen will be trying to avoid turnovers and hoping that Chapman gives up the ball on offense, Squires said. Cal Lutheran simply can't afford to give the Panthers' powerful offense any extra opportunities to put more points on the board. ``Hopefully, we'll get the ball (off Chapman turnovers) on their five-yard line about 15 times and we can score 15 touchdowns,'' Squires joked. Chapman's power-option offense is a trial for any opposing defense. The Kingsmen's defensive goals are to limit running back Darnell Morgan's opportunities on the option and to force quarterback Curtis Robinson to run the ball more than he usually does. Offensively, Cal Lutheran hopes to build on the pass/run balance it established last week and convert more long drives into points. Quarterback Ryan Huisenga completed 21 of 35 passes for 179 yards against Azusa Pacific, and running back Billy Busch ran for 129 yards. Squires is ecstatic ec·stat·ic adj. 1. It's a problem that has hurt the Kingsmen all year. ``We still need to be more productive in the red zone,'' Squires said. ``We're definitely not where we need to be in that area.'' Although Busch played well last week and his running will continue to be a key to Cal Lutheran's offensive success, the Kingsmen miss running back Fredrik Nanhed. Squires said the Kingsmen remain enthusiastic, despite starting the season with a three-game losing streak. ``Obviously we'd like to be 3-0 right now but we're not, and we have to deal with that,'' said the first-year coach. ``As a coach the thing that I worry about is maintaining that positive attitude. I think the players see how close we are to doing some special things here. We're definitely going to turn that corner.''
