Rhiannon Clow has 10 blisters on her feet. The arch on one of those feet has been bothering her for some time. The nasty pain has finally been diagnosed as shin splints.

And, oh yeah, she woke up Friday morning to find out she was ineligible.

In a day she described as ``hectic,'' Clow proved her eligibility by providing an updated transcript from her junior college and is now the leading scorer for the Cal State Northridge women's soccer team after one game.

The junior transfer from Santa Rosa JC did not start Friday's game but entered in the 21st minute and scored two goals as the Matadors opened their season with a 6-1 victory over host Cal State Los Angeles.

After starting hesitantly, Northridge controlled every aspect of the game. Five players scored, and junior defender Pam Karbowski, playing her first college soccer game after two seasons as a guard on the Matadors basketball team, showed she will be a force.

But after the day Clow had - declared eligible practically as the Matadors' bus was leaving for the game - the night belonged to her.

``It was a really emotional day,'' said Clow, whose goals in the 42nd and 45th minutes were pinpoint beauties that found the far reach of the goalmouth and extended Northridge's lead to 3-0.

``Some people just shoot as part of their repertoire,'' Matadors coach Brian Wiesner said. ``She wants to score. It's why she gets up in the morning.''

Amy Gill, Heather Schou, Christy McGowan and Jenn Gardner also scored for Northridge. Everyone played, as Wiesner substituted heavily in the second half.

Morgan Pedford, who started the game in goal, scored in the 79th minute for Division II Cal State L.A.

Some of the news Friday was bad for Northridge. Sophomore Marrica Pichaikul, expected to start at center forward, was declared ineligible Friday morning. Wiesner said her grade-point average was 1.93. Northridge requires a 2.0 for its athletes to be eligible.
