A wet winter storm moved through the Southland on Sunday, triggering a spate of traffic crashes, but also dumping half an inch of badly needed rainfall, the National Weather Service reported.

``What you saw (on Sunday) was your typical winter cold front moving through,'' said Weather Service meteorologist Bill Hoffer
William Leopold Hoffer (November 8, 1870 - July 21, 1959) was a professional baseball player. He was a right-handed pitcher over parts of six seasons (1895-1899, 1901) with the Baltimore Orioles, Pittsburgh Pirates and Cleveland Blues.

``Tuesday, sunshine,'' Hoffer said. The extended forecast calls for breezy, partly cloudy skies and temperatures ranging from mid-30s to the low 70s. Temperatures will be cool all week with a chance of showers returning Thursday.

Sunday's storms boosted annual rainfall totals to nearly 4 inches for the year, but that's still far short of the 7.73-inch average. Light snow was reported in high areas like Frazier Park, but ``it'll melt in a hurry if not faster,'' Hoffer said.
