CLOUDS, SHOWERS SEEN DURING WEEK.

Byline: Daily News

Rain that began falling over the weekend in Southern California could continue today, and forecasters expect cloudy weather with a chance of showers for much of the week.

``There is a chance of light showers today, and a slight chance for the next several days,'' said Bruce Rockwell, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

The Southern California area has had much less rain than normal for this time of year, and Rockwell said Sunday afternoon that the weekend storm had dropped no measurable rain on the Los Angeles Civic Center.

Only 0.84 of an inch had fallen on the Civic Center this season, since July 1, compared with the average of 6.4 inches for this time of year.

``We could stand more, but we'll take any drop we can get right now,'' Rockwell said.

Snow was expected in the mountains around Los Angeles above the level of 8,000 to 9,000 feet.

The extended forecast for Wednesday through Friday is for cloudy skies with a small chance of showers.
