The group then sells them at full price and uses the proceeds for programs at the synagogue synagogue (sĭn`əgŏg) [Gr.,=assembly], in Judaism, a place of assembly for worship, education, and communal affairs. The origins of the institution are unclear. One tradition dates it to the Babylonian exile of the 6th cent. Trudy Feldman said she had been purchasing the coupons from Danish American for about 10 years for Temple Ramat Zion in Northridge. She said Tuesday that she's left with about $1,740 in scrip and expects to get more coupons back from individuals who had purchased them from her. Profits from sale of the scrip went to educational and other programs at the synagogue, she said. ``This is just so rotten rot·ten adj. rot·ten·er, rot·ten·est 1.
