CLIPPPERS NOTEBOOK : RICHARDSON REINJURES HIS ANKLE.

Byline: Gary Washburn Daily News Staff Writer

The Clippers didn't need any bad news coming home from a eight-day roadtrip. But guess what?

Point guard Pooh Richardson Jerome "Pooh" Richardson (born May 14 1966 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) is an American former National Basketball Association (NBA) player.

The 6'1" point guard was taken by the Minnesota Timberwolves with the tenth overall pick of the 1989 NBA Draft out of UCLA.

Richardson missed eight games because of the ankle in December and re-sprained it on Saturday against the Timberwolves. He attempted to practice on it on Monday and reaggravated it again.

``You see he wasn't too happy when he left here,'' Clippers coach Bill Fitch William Fitch (born May 19 1934 in Davenport, Iowa) is a former NBA coach who has been successful in making teams playoff contenders throughout his coaching career. Before entering the professional ranks he coached college ball at the University of Minnesota, Bowling Green State  said. ``I don't know Don't know (DK, DKed)

 what his status is.''

Richardson limped around after practice and likely will not attempt to practice today. The Clippers have three days off after the Indiana game before facing Cleveland.

Speaking of days off: The best way to make Fitch simmer is to show him the Clippers schedule. The club plays nine of the next 10 at home but two three-day off periods between games is an example of what Fitch sees a serious foul-up in the NBA NBA

The Clippers started their five-game roadtrip with three games in four days, then had two days off, finished it with back-to-back games, then three days off, then Indiana, then three more days off, then Cleveland. You get the point.

The Clippers have back-to-back home games on Jan. 23 (Seattle) and 24 (Denver), but the Seattle game is at Anaheim.

``We can't even get two home games at home,'' Fitch said. ``We play one at Anaheim, which is like preparing for a road game.''

No progress: Clippers center Stanley Roberts is still having therapy and has not begun practicing with the team. Fitch hoped Roberts could return to workouts when the club returned from Minneapolis, but he did not come to practice on Monday and is isn't close to returning to action.

``It's the same problem with Stanley, first he's here then he's not,'' Fitch said.

Meanwhile, Kevin Duckworth ran on his sore left foot with limited success. Duckworth is not close to returning. Also, center Dwayne Schintzius practiced then went to get tests after a stomach ailment ail·ment
