CLIPPERS WIN THIRD IN A ROW THEY WORK TOGETHER IN ROUT OF NEW ORLEANS CLIPPERS 109, NEW ORLEANS 80.

Byline: Joe Stevens Staff Writer

If the past three games are any indication, the Clippers are a far cry from the selfish team of a year ago.

In practically every statistical category, the Clippers showed better than New Orleans New Orleans (ôr`lēənz –lənz, ôrlēnz`), city (2006 pop. 187,525), coextensive with Orleans parish, SE La., between the Mississippi River and Lake Pontchartrain, 107 mi (172 km) by water from the river mouth; founded . But even with the nice numbers, Quentin Richardson was proud of a category that wasn't in the box score: team unity.

``We share the ball with each other,'' he said. ``We cheer for each other. We enjoy when our guys are playing well. Everybody's up on the bench. Everybody's yelling. Going into the huddle, everybody's slapping five. We're having fun right now, and that's the important thing.''

The high-fives were in abundance Monday, when the Clippers led the entire game for the first time this season. The Hornets never had a chance down the stretch, getting no closer than 79-65 with 11:16 left.

By the end, it was the Clippers' biggest margin of victory since a 103-72 victory over Indiana on Dec. 2, 2001.

``Overall, this was our best defensive game,'' Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy said. ``I focus on defense, and we came out and played good defense for 48 minutes.''

New Orleans (17-8) had a win streak snapped at four games after shooting just 35.7 percent. Davis shot 7 for 22 and had 16 points and eight assists.

Although Jaric did his part against Davis, he didn't take full credit.

``It was tough, facing a top player like that,'' Jaric said. ``Every time he got by me, my teammates were there to back me up.''

The only negative for the Clippers came when Corey Maggette went down with 11:26 left after re-aggravating a right-ankle sprain sprain, stretching or wrenching of the ligaments and tendons of a joint, often with rupture of the tissues but without dislocation. Sprains occur most commonly at the ankle, knee, or wrist joints, causing pain, swelling, and difficulty in moving the involved joint. . He called it ``sore,'' then went into a dissertation on the victory.

``We played a great game,'' Maggette said. ``I played 20 minutes and hurt myself, but the thing is that the team is playing together.''

The Clippers shot 50.6 percent from the floor.
