CLIPPERS VS. PORTLAND.Tipoff: 7:30 p.m., Rose Garden. TV/Radio: Channel 9; KNEWS (540, 1260). Clippers (14-23) update: Los Angeles needs this game badly but it hasn't won in Portland since Febuary 1993. The Clippers had a win in the bag on Sunday but blew a chance to end their three-game losing streak. Now the Clippers face Portland tonight and Seattle on Thursday to try to snap out of their woes. Forward Lamond Murray is 0 for his past 16 from the field and hasn't scored in the past four games. A key matchup will be the Blazers' Arvydas Sabonis against the Clippers' Lorenzen Wright. Wright has not fared well against big centers. Wright scored 16 points, a career-high, but wasn't able to stop Sabonis. Blazers (22-17) update: Portland has won eight of its past 10, including two wins over the Lakers and one against Utah. The Blazers have five players who average 13.7 points or better compared to the Clippers' none. Point guard Kenny Anderson (18.9 ppg) is the catalyst, and he was able to control the tempo and create offense when the Blazers beat the Clippers 100-95 last month. |
