Pacers (31-12) update: The theory that superstar players make poor coaches has been blown apart by Larry Bird, who has led the Pacers to the best record in the Eastern Conference and will coach in the All-Star game. Bird has rejuvenated the Pacers with a three-guard lineup of Mark Jackson, Reggie Jackson, Reggie (Reginald Martinez Jackson), 1946–, American baseball player, b. Wyncote, Pa. In 21 years in the American League, most notably with the Oakland Athletics and New York Yankees, he hit 563 home runs, winning or sharing four home run titles, and struck out a record 2,597 times. An outspoken player who starred in clutch situations, he became known as "Mr. Miller and Chris Mullin. Miller on Wednesday became the second NBA player in history with 1,500 3-point field goals. Clippers (10-36) update: Coach Bill Fitch needs just one victory to tie Red Auerbach for the second-most wins in NBA history, with 938. But he's been waiting since Jan. 15, the last time L.A. won a game. If the Clippers play as well as they did the first three quarters against San Antonio on Friday, they should be able to get Fitch a victory soon, although probably not against the Pacers. |
