CLIPPERS SCORE RARE VICTORY IN HOUSTON : CLIPPERS 95, HOUSTON 91.

The Clippers picked an unlikely place to jump start their season.

Loy Vaught Loy Stephen Vaught (born February 27, 1968 in Grand Rapids, Michigan) is a retired American basketball player who spent ten seasons in the NBA, primarily with the Los Angeles Clippers.  scored 20 points and led a fourth-quarter rally that helped the Clippers snap a 20-game losing streak in The Summit with a 95-91 victory over the Houston Rockets on Saturday night.

The Rockets have lost six of their last nine games, including five at home, after starting the season 21-2.

``Winning against teams the caliber of the Rockets and Utah raised not only our level of confidence but also our expectations, as a team,'' Vaught said. ``We have to make the most of this.''

The Clippers trailed 79-75 when the fourth quarter began, but Vaught made five of the team's first six baskets for an 88-84 lead - their first since early in the second quarter.

A 3-pointer by Rodney Rogers with 1:45 left and two free throws by Darrick Martin put the Clippers ahead for good, 93-91 with 1:16 left.

Houston had three chances to tie in the final seconds, but Clyde Drexler missed a shot and Olajuwon missed twice. Two free throws by Rogers with 0.3 seconds left completed the scoring.

The Rockets went 7 for 19 on 3-pointers, but they missed their last eight attempts. They also shot just 64 percent (14 of 22) from the free-throw line.

``It's very hard to win a game when the ball won't go in the basket,'' Rockets coach Rudy Tomjanovich said. ``I wouldn't change any of those shots at the end of the game, but that's just sports.''
