Miles attended East St. Louis High School, and, after failing to receive a qualifying SAT score to attend St.
looked out of sync for a good 32 minutes Saturday night. He committed two ugly turnovers, missed five shots and rarely did his victory cheer of bopping his forehead with his fists.

That all changed in the fourth quarter, when Miles scored 12 of his 18 points and the Clippers pulled away to beat the Golden State Warriors The Golden State Warriors are a professional basketball team based in Oakland, California. ``We didn't have motivation in the beginning,'' Miles said. ``Coach was telling us every game counts. It doesn't matter if they won 16 games. It took us until the fourth quarter to really get going.''

``We've just been gone so long,'' Clippers coach Alvin Gentry said. ``It's hard to play a game here, a game there. And that team is very tough. You can see why they're the best rebounding team in the league.''

Jeff McInnis had 20 points and 13 assists, and Elton Brand had 20 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Clippers.

Miles gave the Clippers a 90-80 lead with 8:37 left when he got a kind roll on a jump shot. After two consecutive alley-oop dunks by Miles from McInnis, the Clippers had a 95-84 lead with 6:31 left.

After that the Warriors never seriously threatened, and the Clippers had a 105-90 lead with less than two minutes to play.

``We got running up and down, and once we did that, we were in control,'' McInnis said.

The Warriors got as close as two points with 1:41 left in the third quarter. Gilbert Arenas stole the ball from Miles, who was dribbling lackadaisically lack·a·dai·si·cal
