CLIPPERS NOTEBOOK: STAPLES CENTER MAY NOT WANT CLIPPERS.

. But as they begin their sixth season in the arena, there is no guarantee they'll be back for a seventh.

Tim Leiweke, the president of Anschutz Entertainment Group The Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) is a sporting and music entertainment presenter and a subsidiary of The Anschutz Corporation. The company owns or operates several major entertainment/sporting venues, including Staples Center and The Home Depot Center and beginning in , which runs Staples Center, said in a question-and-answer article in the Los Angeles Downtown News The Los Angeles Downtown News is a free weekly newspaper in Los Angeles, California, serving the Downtown Los Angeles area. While breezy and somewhat boosterish in tone, it provides invaluable coverage of the ongoing changes Downtown is experiencing, and often has insightful  this week that the Clippers may not be invited back when their lease runs out after this season.

``We actually would make more money if, instead of having 40 Clippers games, we had five concerts,'' Leiweke said. ``So, those are some of the decisions we're going to have to make. The Clippers issue is in negotiations now. Their lease is up after this year. And ironically, shockingly, we've got to make a decision as to whether we even want them back. We're not sure.''

The Clippers did not respond to Leiweke's statement. There frequently have been rumors that the team could move to the Pond in Anaheim. However, owner Donald T.  and the Clippers are in negotiations to renew their lease. Leiweke's words could simply be for positioning in negotiations, but the arena does have an overload of events with close to 300 booked per year.
