Byline: Joe Stevens Staff Writer

When Glen Rice Glen Anthony Rice (born May 28 1967, in Flint where he played for Flint Northwestern High School, Michigan) is a retired American NBA basketball player. Rice was a three-time NBA All-Star small forward well known for his pinpoint shooting accuracy, ranking 4th in NBA history with  walks into a restaurant in Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. , he often gets special treatment. It's not necessarily because he's a Clipper, but because he was with the Lakers from 1998 to 2000.

Rice sees firsthand that as much as the Clippers show signs of improvement or respectability, L.A. is a Lakers town.

``How many championships have the Lakers won?'' Rice asked, rhetorically, of their nine championships. ``That says it all, right there. The Clippers, we have to start getting into the playoffs, before we start demanding the type of respect the Lakers get.''

because he was a Clipper, not a Laker. Rice said he sees the difference in how the players on the teams are treated, but maybe not with himself.

``See, I won a ring, so I get a little more love than most of the guys,'' Rice said.

--Ailing: Although the Clippers did not have two future Hall of Famers sidelined like the Lakers with Shaquille O'Neal Shaquille Rashaun O'Neal (pronounced "shak-KEEL") (born March 6, 1972 in Newark, New Jersey), frequently referred to simply as Shaq, is an American professional basketball player, generally regarded as one of the most dominant in the National Basketball Association (NBA).  and Karl Malone, they have their own share of injuries. Marko Jaric missed Sunday's game because of a sprained left foot, and Bobby Simmons missed the game with a sprained right wrist.

Both injured themselves in Saturday's loss to Sacramento and are considered day-to-day.

Dunleavy's advice for the prep star was terse: ``If I were him, I'd go to college.''

--Ely still out: Melvin Ely remains on the injured list because of the flu. But after missing seven games, he might be physically able to play.

The forward said he needs to be re-evaluated by medical personnel before he returns. He lost 15 pounds because of the flu, put back five pounds and said he is at a good playing weight.
