CLIPPERS NOTEBOOK: LIGHTER TAYLOR MAKES IMPRESSION.

Byline: Randy Hill Staff Writer

For his previous training-camp audition, Maurice Taylor Maurice De Shawn Taylor (born October 30, 1976 in Detroit, Michigan) is an American professional basketball player at the power forward position. He was most recently with the NBA's Sacramento Kings, released on January 23, 2007.  must have believed the old joke about a waist being a terrible thing to mind.

When the 6-foot-8 Clippers power forward rolled into College of the Dessert, um, Desert, after the lockout lockout, intentional closing up of a company, factory, or shop by an employer to prevent employees from working during a strike or labor dispute. The term lockout  ended, he dented the scales at 289 pounds.

This season, ``Mini Mo'' - he registered at a greyhound weight of 257 - says only the mind matters.

Example:

``I thought it was going to be a no-brainer.''

Then the 22-year-old laughed after realizing he'd nailed it - in reverse.

Taylor, now in his third season since checking out of Michigan a year early, was referring to his desire to remain a Clipper for 72 additional months and $70.9 million.

But the contract extension offer didn't happen, encouraging critics of owner Donald T. Sterling to believe there was little big thinking involved.

However, his subsequent quest for Verb 1. quest for - go in search of or hunt for; "pursue a hobby"

a trade - piggybacked with a solemn promise to leave after his contract expires next June - has not prevented Taylor from bringing a big-money game to training camp.

During night-session scrimmages at L.A. Southwest College, Taylor, rookie Lamar Odom Lamar Joseph Odom (born November 6 1979, in South Jamaica, Queens, New York) is an American professional basketball player who currently plays power forward (also plays both forward spots and is a "point-forward") for the National Basketball Association's Los Angeles Lakers.  and newly acquired shooting guard The Shooting guard (SG), also known as the two or off guard,[1] is one of five traditional positions on a basketball team. Players of the position are often shorter, leaner, and quicker than forwards.  Derek Anderson

``Kinda scary, isn't it?'' Taylor said after a typically rousing demonstration of thrill-ride basketball. ``I love that kind of tempo.''

Now we'll roll out the C-word - chemistry. There's something new in the petri dish pe·tri dish

, because the Clippers seems to have it.

``We're all mostly young guys,'' Taylor said. ``None of us have gotten caught up in the so-called `Clipper Syndrome.' ''

Fast breaks: Center Michael Olowokandi has developed a hip pointer that has kept him on the stationary bike for the last four workouts. . . . Free-agent point guard Charles Jones, who led the nation in scoring his last two seasons at Long Island U., has been impressive through the first three days of camp. . . . Odom has had several show-stopping moments during the evening scrimmages.
