CLIPPERS NOTEBOOK: GENTRY SAYS TEAM NOT PRESSURING HIM.

Byline: Joe Stevens Staff Writer

If coach Alvin Gentry Alvin Gentry is an American professional basketball coach, and college basketball player, who has led three different NBA teams. He served as an interim coach for the Miami Heat at the end of the 1995 season, and later coached the Detroit Pistons and the Los Angeles Clippers.  is on the ``hot seat'' regarding his job and the Clippers' disappointing 5-9 start, then someone forgot to inform him. It is rumored that if the Clippers don't play up to their potential, he will be let go.

However, sources in the organization deny that Gentry's job is in danger, and Gentry said Monday he has had no warning signs or indication from management that he might be on shaky ground Shaky Ground was a TV sitcom which starred Matt Frewer as Bob Moody, a hapless, but supportive and caring father. Robin Riker played his wife and Jennifer Love Hewitt as his daughter. The show aired on FOX for the 1992-1993 season. . Despite the high expectations this season, his status is the same as in his previous two seasons as Clippers coach.

``I haven't seen any difference,'' Gentry said. ``I still have good communication with (general manager) Elgin (Baylor). I think I've got good communication with the players. Demanding - that's what I'm supposed to be, especially when we're not doing the right thing and we're getting things done. I'm supposed to be demanding.''

No one in the Clippers' front office has said the coach's job is in jeopardy. In fact, he's had full support from the front office, even after the team finished 39-43 last season and missed its goal of making the playoffs.

But if his job were in jeopardy, the front office would want to keep that information out of the media to not inflame the situation. It is obvious Gentry's contract and Clippers history could work against him.

The coach is in the final year of a three-year contract, so it wouldn't be that expensive to buy him out. In the past, the Clippers have gone through coaches like paper towels. In a little more than two seasons, Gentry has coached 178 games, which is seven behind Don Chaney Donald R.
