Dehere grew up in Jersey City, New Jersey, New Jersey and attended St.
on waiverson Wednesday to clear salary-cap room.

Dehere, the 13th pick in the 1994 draft, was a disappointment to a team expecting a dependable outside shooter.

Dehere averaged a career-high 12.4 points per game in 1995-96 and looked ready to contribute this past season. However, he averaged 10 fewer minutes per game with Darrick Martin's emergence and shot just 38 percent from the field.

Dehere sometimes sparked Clippers rallies with quality minutes and other times made mental errors or took bad shots. It became a numbers game when the club finished the season with six guards, making the 6-foot-4 former Seton Hall University Seton Hall University is a private Roman Catholic university located 14 miles from Manhattan in historic South Orange, New Jersey. Founded in 1856 by Archbishop James Roosevelt Bayley, Seton Hall is the oldest diocesan university in the United States.  star expendable.

The Clippers paid Dehere a portion of his $2 million salary for 1997-98 (believed to be $500,000), essentially buying out his contract. Dehere is free to sign with any team while the Clippers pick up salary-cap space.

The unexpected decision means free-agent Malik Sealy Malik Sealy (February 1, 1970 – May 20, 2000) was an American professional basketball player from 1992 until his death in an automobile accident. Sealy played eight seasons in the NBA for the Indiana Pacers, the Los Angeles Clippers, the Detroit Pistons, and the Minnesota  could return. The Clippers have four guards under contract: Brent Barry Brent Robert Barry (born December 31, 1971 in Hempstead, New York) is an American professional basketball player currently with the NBA's San Antonio Spurs. He is known by his nickname, "Bones", and stands 6 ft 7 in (2.01 m). , Pooh Richardson Jerome "Pooh" Richardson (born May 14 1966 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) is an American former National Basketball Association (NBA) player.

Sealy has received lukewarm interest from other teams.

Schintzius renounced: The Clippers picked up $620,000 more when they renounced the rights to disappointing center Dwayne Schintzius. Schintzius played in just 15 games last season, averaging 2.3 points in 7.7 minutes. He missed most of the season with various injuries.

The Clippers could use that money to acquire a center through free agency. They have already traded for Minnesota's Stokyo Vrankovic.

Training-camp site, schedule: The Clippers will train for the upcoming season in La Jolla after a four-year absence. Camp will begin Oct. 3 and end Oct. 20.

The Clippers will open exhibition play with Vancouver (Oct. 11) and host Atlanta and Portland. They'll face Sacramento and Portland on the road and the Lakers in St. Louis.
