CLIPPERS NOTEBOOK: CLIPPERS ARE BEHIND SUSPENDED ODOM.

Byline: Joe Stevens Staff Writer

When Lamar Odom Lamar Joseph Odom (born November 6 1979, in South Jamaica, Queens, New York) is an American professional basketball player who currently plays power forward (also plays both forward spots and is a "point-forward") for the National Basketball Association's Los Angeles Lakers.  showed up at Clippers practice Tuesday, players and coaches didn't turn their backs on the suspended star, even though it could be construed that he let them down.

In March, after a five-game suspension for violating the NBA's antidrug policy, Odom said such a problem never would happen again. Yet this week, Odom is serving another five-game suspension for violating the same policy.

Odom might have let down the Clippers, but the Clippers won't reciprocate re·cip·ro·cate

``We look at this like a family,'' Clippers general manager Elgin Baylor Elgin Gay Baylor (born September 16, 1934 in Washington, D.C.) is a retired American basketball player who played 13 seasons as a forward for the NBA's Minneapolis Lakers/Los Angeles Lakers. And he's a member of the family. In a time of crisis, you want to be with family.''

After Baylor and coach Alvin Gentry Alvin Gentry is an American professional basketball coach, and college basketball player, who has led three different NBA teams. ``He's not a drug addict,'' Baylor said. ``He has personal problems and issues.''

Odom refused to address the media, but by all accounts he was repentant re·pen·tant

``I love Lamar Odom and I'm going to stick by him 100 percent,'' Gentry said. ``I don't care

Disappointment might be the overwhelming feeling the Clippers have for their captain. It would seem normal to point the finger more intensely at Odom or maybe even at those close to him. On the record, though, none of that is happening.

``I'm not angry, but I'm very disappointed,'' Baylor said. ``Why would I get angry? Anger isn't going to solve the problem. I'm just disappointed with Lamar and I think Lamar is very disappointed with Lamar.''

Clippers (1-3) update: Without last year's scoring and rebounding leader, Lamar Odom, the Clippers got their first victory Monday by blowing out Atlanta. They moved the ball extremely well and dominated the boards. Corey Maggette filled in well for Odom by scoring 16 points, and Quentin Richardson had 20 points to lead the team in scoring for the second consecutive game.
