CLIPPERS NOTEBOOK: ABSENCE SLOWS DOWN CLOSS.

Byline: Gary Washburn Daily News Staff Writer

It didn't take Keith Closs Keith Mitchell Closs (born April 3, 1976 in Hartford, Connecticut) is an American professional basketball player. The 7-foot 3-inch player from Central Connecticut State University played three seasons as a backup center for the National Basketball Association's Los Angeles  long to feel the effects of a week's absence.

``I was tired in warmups,'' the rookie center said. ``I thought I would be in decent shape when I came back. But I'm not, I feel really winded.''

The 7-foot-3 Closs returned to Clippers practice at Carson on Monday after spending time "Spending Time" is the first single released by Christian artist Stellar Kart.

The lyrics describe the band members desire to spend "more time with God". "Sometimes it’s a real struggle to spend time with God.
in Connecticut attending his grandmother's funeral. He returned to Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  late Sunday night Sunday Night, later named Michelob Presents Night Music, was an NBC late-night television show which aired for two seasons between 1988 and 1990 as a showcase for jazz and eclectic musical artists.  not even knowing what time practice was.

He had to take his younger brothers - both attend Montclair Prep - to school and then go to the team's Chamber of Commerce luncheon in the afternoon.

The time away from the team might affect Closs in the early going. His daily development was impressing coach Bill Fitch William Fitch (born May 19 1934 in Davenport, Iowa) is a former NBA coach who has been successful in making teams playoff contenders throughout his coaching career. Before entering the professional ranks he coached college ball at the University of Minnesota, Bowling Green State , but missing six practices and two exhibition games against top-notch centers likely will cost him playing time.

``That week really hurt Keith,'' Fitch said. ``He needed that time. But he came back and worked hard.''

Closs participated in the two hour-plus workout but was obviously fatigued. Now he has to decide whether to miss another day of practice to attend a cousin's funeral in L.A.

With the season opener Friday at Phoenix, every practice leading up to that key game will be important.

C-day: Fitch confirmed again that he will make the final cuts today, and there is some suspense to the moves he will make. The club has 17 players in camp and would need to cut five.

Fitch would like to keep one player on the injured list. Rookies Kiwane Garris Kiwane Garris (born September 24 1974 in Chicago, Illinois[1]) is an American professional basketball player currently playing for Premiata Montegranaro of the Italian league. He is a 6'2", 183 lb point guard. , James Collins James Collins may refer to:
  • James Collins, commander of HMS Meteor.
  • James Collins, footballer for West Ham United F.C. in London
  • James Collins, Irish politician and father of Gerard Collins
  • James Collins, British journalist
, veteran Rodney McCray - trying to make a comeback after a three-year retirement - and centers Nate Huffman and Rich Manning are on the bubble.

Fitch said there's a possibility he'll keep one of the five, even though 12 players have guaranteed contracts. Fitch has been impressed with Garris and Collins, while he could use a center in case Closs or Stojko Vrankovic falter.

Keeping a player on the injured list would mean Fitch would have to prove to the league the player is actually injured. Last season, with Brent Barry with a badly sprained wrist and centers Stanley Roberts, Dwayne Schintzius and Kevin Duckworth all overweight and nursing ailments, it wasn't difficult. Barry and Schintzius started on the list.

This season every player is reasonable healthy. Manning's apparent broken finger suffered against Portland on Friday was nothing more than a sprain sprain, stretching or wrenching of the ligaments and tendons of a joint, often with rupture of the tissues but without dislocation. Sprains occur most commonly at the ankle, knee, or wrist joints, causing pain, swelling, and difficulty in moving the involved joint. .
