CLIPPERS ESCAPE WITH WIN BEAT WARRIORS, WHO DRESSED 7.

Byline: JOE STEVENS Staff Writer

The Clippers had something similar to date night or a mini-vacation.

They got to escape to a world of playing Golden State on the day the Warriors executed an eight-player trade.

That meant the Warriors had only seven available players. Although the game was closer than they would have liked, the Clippers escaped with a 115-109 victory Wednesday night at Staples Center This articlearticle or section has multiple issues:

Of the Warriors' seven available players, three - Kelenna Azubuike Kelenna David Azubuike (born December 16 1983 in London, England, UK) is an English professional basketball player who currently plays for the NBA's Golden State Warriors. , Patrick O'Bryant Patrick O'Bryant (born June 20, 1986, in Oskaloosa, Iowa) is an American professional basketball player for the Golden State Warriors of the National Basketball Association, who drafted him 9th overall in the 2006 NBA Draft.  and Renaldo Major Renaldo Major (born May 7 1982 in Chicago, Illinois[1]) is an American professional basketball player. He is a 6'7" 190 lb. small forward.

Major played collegiate basketball at South Plains College and then Fresno State University.

Employing a zone defense for practically the entire night, the Warriors hung around in the first half to trail 64-55 at halftime.

But when the third quarter arrived, the Clippers went up by as many as 23 points and looked poised for a blowout win.

But in the ``year after'' season in which problems seem to follow the Clippers as frequently as ``The Tonight Show'' follows the local news, it was far from a rout. Instead, the Warriors hung around and pulled within five points three times in the final 3:16. The Clippers hung on to win and may not have been in danger of losing, but they never cleared their bench in a game that appeared earmarked for bench players.

With the Warriors having an anomaly of a lineup, the Clippers had some deviations in their statistics.

Quinton Ross Quinton Lenord Ross (born April 30 1981 in Dallas Texas) is an American professional basketball player who currently plays small forward for the Los Angeles Clippers of the NBA.

Ross led Dallas' Justin F.
scored a career-high 24 points, and Corey Maggette Corey Antoine Maggette (born November 12 1979, in Melrose Park, Illinois) is an American professional basketball player, positioned at small forward for the NBA's Los Angeles Clippers.  flirted with his first career triple-double, finishing with 16 points, nine rebounds and seven assists.

Elton Brand Elton Tyron Brand (born March 11, 1979 in Peekskill, New York) is an American All-Star professional basketball player for the National Basketball Association's Los Angeles Clippers and the USA National Team.  finished with 27 points on 11-of-13 shooting and 11 rebounds.Cassell had 23 points and 13 rebounds.

roster, their season's problems still encompass them. One year after getting within one win of the Western Conference Finals, they remain three games below .500 and out of a playoff spot.

Coach Mike Dunleavy has said his Clippers have had lapses with concentration, and he's been soul-searching to figure out what's happening.

``I'm analyzing this thing, night and day,'' he said.

The coach repeatedly says that the Clippers' success is tied to their defense, and the team often has been poor defensively this season. He says he sees that his players are doing the right thing on defense, but frequently, they're a step or two behind where they need to be.
