CLIPPERS ARE TWO SPECTACULAR L.A. GOES UP 2-0 ITS SERIES AGAINST DENVER IN EASY FASHION CLIPPERS 98, DENVER 87.

Byline: JOE STEVENS Staff Writer

A bombardment.

A shellacking.

It was a drubbing that even the most optimistic Clipper fan could have had a hard time imagining, but whoomp, there it was - a 98-87 victory over the Denver Nuggets Nuggets can refer to several branches of interest:
  • , a compilation of U.S. psychedelic rock released between 1965 and 1968
  • , a Rhino Records box set of non-U.S.

to go up 2-0 in their best-of-7, first-round playoff series.

The Clippers led by as many as 25 points in the first half and were up 16 heading into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, they also were strong, going up by 23 points early in the period.

They took a firm grip on the series and lead by two games in a playoff series for the first time in the 35-year history of the franchise. They need two more wins to join the 1975 Buffalo Braves as the only teams in franchise to win a playoff series.

In the third quarter, the closest that Denver got was 62-50 with 5:35 left, when former Clipper Earl Boykins Earl Antoine Boykins (born June 2 1976 in Cleveland, Ohio) is an American professional basketball player currently with the Milwaukee Bucks of the National Basketball Association.  made a 3-point shot.

Carmelo Anthony Carmelo Kiyan Anthony (born May 29,1984) is an American professional basketball player at the small forward position for the Denver Nuggets of the National Basketball Association and the USA National Team.  didn't score in the first half, but turned things around in the second half, scoring 11 points in the third quarter. Denver had various struggles and didn't have Kenyon Martin Kenyon Lee Martin (born December 30, 1977 in Saginaw, Michigan), is an American professional basketball player. Nicknamed 'K-Mart', he currently plays at power forward for the National Basketball Association's Denver Nuggets.  available in the second half because he reaggravated a left knee injury.

The Clippers simply bombarded the Nuggets in the first half, going up as many as 25 points and leading 56-34 at halftime, after Cuttino Mobley Cuttino Rashawn Mobley (born September 1, 1975 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) is an American professional basketball player in the NBA who currently plays for the Los Angeles Clippers.  nailed a buzzer-beating 3-point shot from a few feet inside of mid-court.

They pounded the Nuggets at the start, outscoring the visitors 32-13 in the first quarter and getting Anthony completely off his game and shackled with three fouls in just six minutes of play. He didn't score in the half, went 0 of 4 from the field and contributed to Denver looking completely out of sorts to shoot a mere 26.8 percent in the half.

On the other side of the court, the Clippers clipped along with practically everything going right. Mobley scored 15 first-half points, and Sam Cassell Samuel (Sam) James Cassell (born November 18, 1969 in Baltimore, Maryland) is an American professional basketball player who currently plays point guard for the NBA's Los Angeles Clippers.  distributed eight assists.

Even the Clippers' second unit clicked in the first half, with Corey Maggette Corey Antoine Maggette (born November 12 1979, in Melrose Park, Illinois) is an American professional basketball player, positioned at small forward for the NBA's Los Angeles Clippers.  scoring eight first-half points.
